Hivelocity, Virterion, and Hostwind are US-based companies that also provide VPS services. Each has a polished description and strives to showcase its capabilities, but let's take a look at the data.
Hostwinds offers VPS on the Unmanaged SSD Cloud 2 plan for $9.99 with the following parameters: 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 50 GB SSD disk space, and 2 TB traffic.
The VPS Index was only 893, mainly due to low CPU performance. The figure isn't high, but it's not the worst. We had no complaints about the VPS or technical support. And they promise mountains of gold in terms of support./p]

Virterion offers VPS on the NL Start plan for $8.25 with the following parameters: 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 10 GB NVMe disk space and unlimited traffic.
The VPS Index was 2570, which is quite good for the price. The provider is newer, but promising.

We also tested a VPS with the High Start plan for $13.75 with the following parameters: 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 10 GB NVMe disk space, and unlimited traffic. This is a bit confusing, as the NL Start has the same characteristics. In fact, the difference is solely in processor performance. The NL Start VPS uses an Intel Xeon 6761P processor, while the High Start uses an AMD EPYC 9655P. Both processors are good; the first is rarely used due to its cost, while the second is undoubtedly more powerful. Based on the results, we can conclude that nodes with the High Start plan are clearly less loaded.
The VPS Index was 4108, which is a phenomenal result. The price is certainly higher, but the performance is fully in line with it.
We tested two Hivelocity plans in Tampa: PRO.SM.AMD and VDS.SM.INTEL.
VPS PRO.SM.AMD costs $10 and has the following parameters: 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 40 GB NVMe, and unmetered traffic. The processor used is an AMD processor, the exact one is not disclosed, but it is stated to be a shared core. The VPS index was 2716.
VPS VDS.SM.INTEL costs $21 and has the following parameters: 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB NVMe, and unmetered traffic. It uses an Intel processor, again unclear which one, but it has a dedicated core. The VPS index was 2707. This is a rare case where one can say that the cost savings are very reasonable.

To add credibility to these results, some of the VPSs were tested on ServerVerify.
Here are the results:
- Virterion, NL Start, Netherlands- score 10.7
- Virterion, High Start, Netherlands - score 71.4
- Hivelocity, PRO.SM.AMD, Tampa - score 26.1
- Hivelocity, VDS.SM.INTEL, Tampa - score 14.9
I agree with the specific test parameters; they're accurate. Even the more expensive VDS.SM.INTEL performed worse than Hivelocity's PRO.SM.AMD.
But overall, ServerVerify's conclusions are incorrect. For a dedicated server, multithreading and overall performance of all cores may be more important beyond a certain threshold, but for a VPS, the performance of a single core is a critical parameter and is very noticeable during operation. ServerVerify also doesn't prioritize the CPU, which is again incorrect. It's also worth mentioning that IndexVPS conducts three tests and averages the results. The tests are conducted at different times and intervals to ensure no one can tamper with the results.
However, ServerVerify's tests are provided for comparison purposes only. If you need the most accurate VPS comparison, use IndexVPS!
Conclusions
Price/performance ratio:
- Hostwinds, Unmanaged SSD Cloud 2, Index VPS 893 / $9.99 = Index VPS per $1 - 89
- Virterion, NL Start, Index VPS 2570 / $8.25 = Index VPS per $1 = 312
- Virterion, High Start, Index VPS 4108 / $13.75 = Index VPS per $1 = 299
- Hivelocity, PRO.SM.AMD, Index VPS 2716 / $10 = Index VPS per $1 = 272
- Hivelocity, VDS.SM.INTEL, Index VPS 2707 / $21 = Index VPS per $1 = 129
If you need maximum core performance, I recommend looking at Virterion High Start. If this isn't as critical, I recommend choosing by location:
- In the US, choose PRO.SM.AMD from Hivelocity;
- In Europe, choose NL Start from Virterion.
